TFT Shared Draft Guide: Which Champion and Item to Take

By PivotTFT · Updated 13 October 2026 · 6 min read

The shared draft, which most people still call the carousel, is the one round where everyone picks from the same pool. What you grab there is usually your biggest item decision of the stage, so it's worth knowing what the strongest comps need right now.

How the shared draft works

At set points in the game, every player walks into a rotating ring of champions, each holding an item, and takes one. The players with the least health pick first, so whoever's in the most trouble gets the widest choice. Shared drafts come back at regular points through the game.

The item or the champion?

Most of the time you're picking the item: champions are easy to find in the shop, while every component decides what your carry can build. Take the champion instead when it's the third copy of a pair, or a key unit you just can't find, and its item is one you can use anyway.

Tip When two champions carry the same component, take the one that fits your board. You get both for one pick.

The components top comps need now

This table counts the components inside every item on the S and A boards of our comp tier list. The ones at the top are what the strongest comps are built from this patch, so they're the safest picks while your direction is still open:

A component that builds lots of items is flexible too: it rarely goes to waste, whatever you end up playing. The item guide lists every recipe, and the item tier list ranks the finished items.

Choosing for your own board

  1. Start from your carry's best items. Every comp guide lists its item order; find the first item you can't build yet.
  2. Take the component that finishes it. One component that completes a key item is worth more than two that start new ones.
  3. Keep the board alive. If you're losing rounds, the component that finishes a tank item can save more health than a second damage item.

Using your place in the order

Picking early is the hidden reward of a planned loss streak: you choose from the whole ring while the healthy players wait. When you pick late, plan around what's likely to be left, and if the ring still has a component your board needs, run straight for it.
