TFT Item Guide: Components, Recipes and Who Should Hold What

By PivotTFT · Updated 13 October 2026 · 10 min read

Items are what turn a decent board into a winning one. Most of it is about timing and who holds what: build too late and you bleed, build on the wrong unit and you're stuck with it. Every Set 18 recipe is at the bottom, with our current tier for each finished item.

How items work

You get components from shared drafts, neutral rounds and some augments. Put two on the same champion and they turn into a completed item right away, and a champion can hold three items at most. Once an item is built it stays on that unit until you sell it or use something that removes or swaps items, so think before you drop it on someone.

Set 18 has 10 components. Each completed item is one fixed pair, so the components you pick up decide which items you can make. The full list is at the bottom of this guide.

What to build early

In stage 2 you usually don't know your final carry yet. Keeping components on the bench is safe, but they do nothing for you while you lose rounds. A good early item makes your board stronger right now, stays useful later, and doesn't lock you into one comp.

  • Slam flexible items. Items that work on lots of carries, or on any frontliner, are good early builds. Items only one champion wants are better saved.
  • Put them on a unit you can take them off. An early item on a cheap unit is fine: when your real carry shows up, sell the holder and the item comes back to your bench.
  • Let your items pick your comp. Open with two attack-speed items and the comps built around attack-speed carries suddenly look a lot better. Our comp guides list the items every carry wants.

Tip Check the item tier list before a shared draft. It shows which completed items are strongest this patch, so you know which component finishes one.

Itemising a carry

Most comps lean on one or two carries, and their items matter more than anything else on your board. Build them in this order:

  1. The item that makes the carry work. Casters want mana, attackers want attack speed or damage. Whatever fixes the carry's biggest weakness comes first.
  2. A damage multiplier. Items that scale everything else, like crit or bonus damage, come next.
  3. Survival or utility. The third item keeps the carry alive long enough to use the first two, or deals with something specific in your lobby.

Don't spread good carry items across several units. Three items on one strong carry almost always beats one item each on three.

Why that order works, and which items multiply each other, is in the damage guide.

Items for your frontline

Your frontline is there to buy time. Defensive items on your main tank let your carry keep hitting; without them, even a fully itemised carry can die before it does anything. A common split is three items on the carry, two or three on the main tank, and whatever's left on a second tank or a support.

Match your defensive items to the lobby: armour against physical damage, magic resist against casters, and anti-heal against comps that sustain.

Emblems, artifacts and radiants

  • Emblems give their holder an extra trait. They're made from special components and can push a comp to a higher breakpoint, or let a strong unit join a trait it normally doesn't have.
  • Artifacts are unique items you get from some augments and events. Their effects are unusual and they don't follow the normal recipes.
  • Radiant items are upgraded versions of normal items, usually from augments or late-game rewards, and they're a lot stronger than the item they come from.

All three are on the item tier list, each with a note on when it's worth it.

Emblem recipes

Most emblems are crafted from a Spatula or a Frying Pan plus one other component:

Not craftable (from augments and other sources): Coven Emblem, Defender Emblem, Flora Fatalis Emblem, Juggernaut Emblem, Phantom Emblem.
